Trade Up

John Grasso of Glen Burnie, Maryland, had a problem. It was Memorial Day weekend, and some floating debris had just hobbled his 33-foot Maxum. Suddenly, he found himself in a strange and unsettling position. "The weekend was coming up, and everybody was getting together--and I had no boat." John says. He began looking for an 18-foot runabout that could quickly fill in, one that could be prepped and ready the same day. His search led to Maxum dealership Riverside Marine.

John explained his predicament, and the Riverside team suspected that what he really wanted wasn't a replacement, but an upgrade. Riverside's Dave Baumgartner showed John a 4200 Sport Yacht. The two agreed on a handsome deal that involved trading John's old 33-footer for the new 4200. "Everything he said was true," John recalls, referring to Dave's offer of market value for the damaged boat. "And even though I've only known the guy a year, he's now like a best friend to me." The 4200 has since become the centerpiece of John's boating excursions with friends. "What a pleasure," he sighs. "It's funny, because all my friends have like 26-, 27-footers. Mine looks like the Queen Mary against theirs."
